It's my mother's name (she was born in 1957, and her family was very "country"). She hates it...I think mainly because she was named that after a deaf/blind/handicapped aunt who died the year she was born, and that association was apparently so awkward for her and/or her family that she's always just been called by her middle name...plus, it's kind of ironic, considering she's allergic to laurel.

I was wondering why you'd think it was country until you mentioned Loretta Lynn lol

All the Lorettas I know are country. It would have had a different vibe in the '50s, perhaps, but now? 100% country.

Yeah, Loretta sounds country and I immediately think of Loretta Lynn. Though, if I actually knew someone named Loretta my perception might shift.

I don't think Loretta feels country at all. It's more exotic sounding. It's ok, but sounds dated.

I went to school with a girl named Loretta.I didn't know her well;our classes were big, about 50 students.
I do remember that she was very pretty, even beautiful. And certainly a nice person.
Not particularly "country", just small town, as we all were.

I prefer it spelled Lauretta.

The only Loretta I've known was an old lady at a care home I used to work at. She was very proper and glamorous, so that's what I think of. I'm not sure what I would've thought of it before her, but I think it's pretty.

It seems country to me, yeah. Not sure how grounded in actual usage that is or if it's just my perception. It's a beautiful country name though.
