I really like it. Like some others said I think it sounds regal and strong. I also really like the meaning. :)

It seems sort of hollywoody, like Egypt or Amara.

I don't think it's ghetto. I just think of it as a geographical name, and it's more namey than a lot of other countries, states, cities, etc. names. I didn't know it was feminine though, I assumed it was masculine until I looked at the BtN entry.

The sound is pretty, but I wouldn't use it for the same reason I wouldn't use India or China, although I like the sounds of those as well, even though Zaire is no longer a country.

It sounds regal to me.

Considering that Zaire is a legitimate name with an actual meaning, I wouldn’t call it ghetto. It’s leagues better than Lashawn and Deandre.(Also, considering the controversy around the word “ghetto” - I honestly don’t see how everyone’s so mad about it. Sure, “ghetto” might be usually applied to black people, but its actual meaning is “Noting something that is considered to be unrefined, low-class, cheap, or inferior.”
I didn’t see “black” or “African American” written anywhere in that sentence. I think people should stop scrutinizing every word they see)

You seem to be aware that there is sometimes a difference between the dictionary definition of a word and what it means when it is said and what it is understood to mean in common parlance. The fact is that in the US the word "ghetto" is often used pejoratively to describe low-income African Americans, or their presumed forms of behavior, dress, and speech. Thus, when "ghetto" is used as an insult, it often sounds like a racial insult. I'm not saying that that applies to every use of the word "ghetto", but in this context, used to describe a name, with the qualifier "too", it does apply.

I don't know if I'd use the word ghetto to describe it. It's absolutely a black name, and I think it's also got a dated feel to it; that style of names tends to fall in and out of fashion very quickly.

I like it, it's got a solid strength to it, it's electric while still being stable. And it's a lovely golden colour. Its etymology is pretty epic ("river that swallows all rivers").

DISCLAIMER: I AM EXTREMELY SORRYDue to what is going on. I made a foolish choice to say ghetto. Please accept my apology. I do not want to hurt anybody in the Black community.

I thinks it’s a little odd, and I wouldn’t use it.
But it’s not really that bad.
(Btw, a lot of people get really offended when you use the word ghetto. Just letting you know In case the thread blows up over it.)

Thank you for clarifying. I'm black. I really love this name, but I there are people that say some nasty things.

It’s okay! I just have seen other threads where people got really upset and offended when someone used the word ghetto. I have some black friends that say it, a lot, and it didn’t really occur to me to get upset over it until I saw one of the threads where people got really upset. So that’s why I just figured I’d say something :)

Thank you so much! You have made an excellent point. I normally dislike names in my own race, like Lawanda and Deshawn. But White people can name children Mckynlee and Rayden. There are questionable names like Lucifer/Damian/Leviathan. All in all, a name is a personal decision. :)
