My husband's great grandmother was named Estella but typically went by Stella. So you could have it both ways. Estelle nn Stella would work as well.

Stella sounds almost masculine (Stellan) and popular, where Estelle sounds sophisticated and feminine. More one of a kind rather than one of many.

It’s less common and has much more class than Stella, which is cute but honestly overused. Plus, Estelle is just more my type.

Stella seems classic, elegant and accessible.
Estelle is dated, was pretentious, and I don't like the rhythm.

Stella's too easily conflated with Ella, Bella, etc. Estelle is more elegant but also brassy.

I love both, but Estelle is an older lady name and Stella is more classic and works better for all ages.
The top name on my list for over a decade was Estella which is a lovely combination of the two.

I dislike both names. I like the meaning.
