What do you think of it and is the nickname “Jes” ok?

I would rather not be named after a public park on Tyneside, and I don't enjoy names like Desmond and Raymond, so I'd avoid it.

I can't think of any other nickname formed from Jesmond. So, yes, it's OK. Unattractive, but OK.
