[Opinions] Re: Maxine
It's my favorite aunt's name, but she's always gone by Mackie. She was named after my great grandfather, Max. It's certainly not in right now, but I think it will be before too terribly long. I hated it for a long time but now I'm starting to see it as stylish in an austere kind of way. It's not gentle or pretty or particularly "feminine." I think right now, that people embrace ultra soft names for girls or "unisex" names for girls like Harper and Avery that are tomboyish only in the most palatable way. They're "cute." Maxine is not. Maybe when we start to value a sort of femininity that isn't so damn pretty or cute but is instead strong or plucky, we'll like Maxine again.
