This sounds vaguely familiar to me, like it's a brand name or something. It doesn't appeal to me as a name for a child.

Laramie is the cigarette brand in 'The Simpsons'. Maybe it's that? On Googling apparently they used to be a real brand too. Either way, it's the reason I can't see and don't like it as a name.
