I find its popularity funny/endearing because it coincided with Mason jars being marketed as decor. It's like it's mediocre and proud of it.
And it's definitely riding on the coattails of Jason, which is a more illustrious name.
It's respectable, though: strong, practical, familiar. One of the better occupational names imv.
