I really like Cornelius. I don't think it's too long although I have been told that it sounds supercilious and/or overbearing. I don't get impression. I think it's strong yet not in your face masculine. Because it is four syllables a short name would work well, although (as is my case) if the surname is only one-syllable long I can see a slightly longer name (even up to three sylables) being used.
