But I wouldn't assume that Wanda was chosen for its Polishness; in the US, anyway, it was very common in the middle of the 20th century, and none of the several Wandas I've known (including my aunt, who is Cherokee, and another Wanda who is black) were Polish.

She was the only Wanda I've ever known in South Africa: we don't have a lot of Slavic immigrants here, and Slavic names are extremely rare.
