Given that this is fantasy, I thought it'd be fun to come up with my own surname system. In this world, surnames aren't changed when you're married. Sons take the surnames of their fathers, and daughters take the surnames of their mothers. Same-sex couples give their same-sex children a combination of their surnames, and their opposite-sex children the surname of their closest opposite-sex relative.
