[Opinions] Can you imagine a child being named Disney?
I know it would be as bold as you can get with a name but I could kinda imagine a child with the name Disney. It is the most influential thing that anyone can experience in their entire life. Disney is an emotion, an entity unlike anything in the entire universe!

One day I think people are finally going to realize how messed it up it is that one singular media company controls so much of entertainment and media and has achieved a level of reverence among many that feels religious in a sense. Just... yikes.
Anyway, this name would be hellish.

I know of a child named Disney-Leigh
I would hate to have this name, but it's not surprising people are using this name (considering it's similarities to other "trendy" names and the existence of people who make Disney their entire personality). It's like naming your child after Trump or Musk.
I don't like it as a name, but I can picture it on an imaginative little girl who believes in fairy tales and has a strong sense of right and wrong (always wanting the villains to pay for their crimes).
Disney is a surname. It is not unique to Walt and Roy Disney and their descendents. I've encountered an ordinary family with the last name Disney at the library.
When I was in Liverpool a few months ago I saw a "for sale" sign on a derelict shop and one of the people's names was Mark Disney.
Obviously it was unique enough to name an entire Empire Disney!!!
It's over 5 times more common than my surname according to forebears.io; my surname's at least common enough that if I do a google search, I can find someone else with the same first and last name combination.
I wouldn't have guessed, though! I've never met a Disney.

Not really. They just used the founder's last name. Keebler Company was started by a baker surnamed Keebler. Kellogg's was started by brothers with that last name. Ringling Circus was run by the Ringling brothers. Lilly pharmaceuticals originated with Eli Lilly. Walt Disney started Disney. Using the founder's last name as a company brand is common.
All those last names were unique enough to associate the name with the brands and the founding family of the brands. I never heard anyone with the name Disney other than the Walt and the family of Walt Disney, besides the name Disney was a created anglicization of the name D’Isgny.
Idk, I think if there was a famous "The Alfonso Flores Company" or something people would associate Flores with the company because it's so famous, despite it being a common name. So "unique enough" could include even some of the most common names (another example is Ford - I think of trucks even though that seems a common surname). I personally wouldn't consider Kellogg rare but still associate the company.

I would hate to be named Disney. In all honestly, there was a time in my life, as a teen, when I probably would have thought it was so cool and unique, but as an adult with awareness of how bad they are (as any modern corporation inevitably is) I would hate it. I hate my actual name, but not enough to go through the trouble of changing it, but if it was "Disney" then I would for sure have changed it.
I have no way of verifying if this is real, but I saw a screenshot of some FB parents group the other day, and a mother was talking about her child named "Disneyanna Marceline." I guess if forced to choose, just "Disney" would be preferable over that.

Even if you love Disney movies please do not name your child Disney. What about using the name of a Disney character? Or you could use Walter. I’m not a fan of Walt or Walter but it’s better than using Disney
Apart from the Walt Disney reference, it's too close to the word dizzy.
Yes, when it comes, to names, anything goes these days. I would hate to be named it, I like some Disney movies, mostly Pixar, but not a big fan of the company.
I can imagine a Disney adult being so obsessed they name their child Disney, but it doesn’t make a good name.
Definitely not! Walt Disney was an antisemite.
I'm very sorry, but I don't think Disney would be a very good name. You could name a boy or girl after a Disney character though! There are lots of nice options to choose from. I'm an actor and I want to use some Shakespearean names in the future.

I can imagine a kid being named Disney. And I even think that the sound of it is cute, kind of like Delaney. But my first thought upon seeing this post was that most people would assume the parents are "Disney adults." While there’s nothing inherently wrong with holding onto childhood nostalgia or enjoying the same things you loved as a kid, naming your child Disney feels a little too far. The name is so closely tied to the company that it might come across as more of an obsession than just fondness.
Part of the issue is that, for most people, Disney wasn’t the most formative or profound or 'influential' experience of their lives. I know it wasn’t for me. And even though I can picture a child named Disney, it’s a lot harder to imagine that name aging well into adulthood. So, personally, I don’t think it makes for a great name in the long run.

I can easily see a couple of Disney Adults saddeling their child with an extremely corporate, capitalist name, sure.
I can *see* it, but I wouldn't *wish* it on anyone.

I would disagree that it is the most influential thing that anyone can experience in life. Perhaps that is true for you but you cannot speak for everyone. I have experienced Disney and it does nothing for me. In fact, I avoid all things Disney.
I can imagine this name on someone but do not like it based on sound and association.

Yeah, I could definitely imagine a child with the name Disney. I can't lie, I do sort of like it as a first name, but unfortunately, it is too tied to the company. I can imagine a child getting teased for having this name.
I have never seen film from Disney. My parents raised me on old Soviet stuff like Soyuzmultfilm or Russian media. It never influence me :/
I can imagine kid called Disney, but it sound very modern and Gen Alpha (or younger) western kid name. I do not like it because of that and because it is very very capitalist (naming your kid after brand).

Have you watched Belka i Strelka or that's too modern/made for western audience?

I have not seen this but probably because it is too western :[
Mostly what I watched as kid was Soyuzmultfilm and sometimes Teremok TV, and rarely cartoons on cable channels
My favourite cartoon as child was Proverte vashi chasy (Проверьте ваши часы) from 1963

Are you familiar with the 1957 The Snow Queen?
I'm curious as to your thoughts on it. I never met a person in real life who has seen this movie. It influenced me a lot as a child and one of the things to get me interested in animation.

I can imagine it, while still thinking it’s an awful name for a child.
Sadly, I can imagine it. There are a lot of highly questionable "Disney Adults" out there who have made Disney their whole personality, like it's a cult or something.
I'd feel incredibly sorry for a child named Disney. It's way more pathetic and sad than other brand-inspired names.
I've actually heard that parents who give their kids trademarks as names run into trouble later. Some countries are refusing to give passports to them, because that's a trademark infringement.
Just pick names from your favourite Disney films. At least give the kid a chance.

agree ...
It's the kind of thing a little kid who didn't know any better would think was a good idea and around age ten or so he'd grow out of it.
It's just too "immature, socially-stunted young adult with a tenuous grip on reality" kind of thing.

You know im sick of the phrase “Disney Adults” what is so damn harmful about an adult loving Disney? What are we supposed to get rid and disregard everything we loved as a child just because we are a So-called adult. That's like saying we supposed to give up deserts because we're adults now!!!!
I was raised an hour away from Disneyland and watching Disney movies. I love it, and some of my fondest memories were from Disney. I think we carry part of our childhoods with us, but we don't let them rule over us. I am an adult who loves Disney, not a "Disney adult."
You can hate the term all you want, but I think they gave themselves that name. I'd never heard it until I met people who made sure I knew they were Disney Adults. It's weird.
yes ...
You know, back when we were kids, one of the things we were taught to beware of in terms of potential predators was adults who seem overly interested in things geared for kids. Like Disney movies, to name just one. Of course this does not mean that every adult who loves Disney movies (or Barbies or My Little Pony or whatever) is some kind of pervert on the make, but ... the lines are so blurred now that it's getting very hard to know, if you're a kid, what you should actually be made uncomfortable by short of actual physical pain or threats.

It is adult who like Disney. Makes sense to me.
It's just thing you like + what you are. Like "TikTok kid". Or "cat person".

I only ever heard people use “Disney Adults” in a negative way like we're supposed to be ashamed of loving and admiring Disney.
I have a degree in animation. I love animation and I love many creations of Disney.
However, Disney as a person AND corporation is not anything to admire.
At least, not wholly and without a healthy amount of criticism. A very healthy amount.
Disney as a person and Disney as a corporation have done some insanely questionable to even morally wrong things.
There is nothing wrong with liking the end product, but it's worth looking into the other names attached to a product, also. There are whole teams of artists behind the veil.

Amen to the above.
Of course I can imagine a child named Disney. Even though there were fewer the five either boys or girls given this name in the USA in 2024, it is close enough in sound to names like Delaney, Isabella, Finley, Lindsay, etc. that if it got a bit of publicity from being the name of a fictional character in a TV show or movie, or some celebrity named their baby this, that I think it could take off and be within the top 1000 in a few years.
There are kids named Disney. I wouldn't want to be named after a brand, but I like it better than Dutton and maybe Dior.

It's just another lnfn really; the associations with the film etc maker would make it unfortunate if there wasn't a genuine family name that could serve as an explanation.
I must add that Disney is one of the least influential, or even interesting, things I have experienced in my whole life.

You may not have liked Disney, but there has been generations upon generations of people that have been influence by Disney in some form or at the very least have a very strong profound appreciation for it.
I agree that it has influenced many people very strongly. Again, I love Disney too. But I think naming a child directly after it is not a good idea. It's almost like naming a child Hershey because you love the chocolate. There's a line between loving something very dearly and hero worshipping it.
I think the best thing would be to use a character name like Belle, Ella, Philip, Eric, Ariel, etc.. Is there a specific character that you like?

Stitch from Lilo & Stitch my favorite Disney Movie of all time.
Lilo or Nani is sweet. Actually, Lani is a pretty popular choice and it's a combination of both.
Of course they do - so what? I don't like boiled eggs either, but anyone else is more than welcome to them.
