[Opinions] Delaney...
Is Delaney a boy name or girl name? Or, best just left as a last name? What's your opinion on the name?

It's better left as a surname, but it doesn't sound horrible as a girl's name, as I know a grown woman named Delaina so that's what it makes me think of.

It could possibly be used on a boy, esp. with the nns Del or Lane, but for some reason, I see it more on a girl. Maybe b/c I knew a Delaina in college, so the Delaney variation is firmly entrenched as feminine in my mind.

I've only heard it as a girls name or last name. It could easiy be one of those names that 50-100 years ago was all male such as Ashley and Mallory but is now female.

girls, but could work on boys as well

I'm not into surnames as first names, but I think it works better as a girls' name (mainly because the only Delaney I know of is a girl, Leslie's daughter here on BtN). I think it's OK but I'm not a huge fan.

It's a girls' name imo. It's not too bad, just not a favorite of mine, although I think the NN Laney is very cute. My preference, though, would have to be the similar name Laine, for a girl, on its own.

I don't mind it for any of those things, actually! It would make sense for a surname, since it sounds like a place name to me.It would make sense for a boy's name because most surnames are used for boy's names and not girl's.And finally, I like it for a girl's name because it could be shortened to the nickname "Laney", which I happen to find really cute. :)

I personally don't like it, but that's just personal taste. I have nothing against it being a first name though. I've only seen this name on girls. I did read a book with a male main character named Delaney, but that's about it when it comes to being a boy name. I think it sounds more like a girl's name.**~**~**~**~**~**~**

I see it as a girl's name because I've only heard of girls named Delaney. I like the nn Laney. Delaney is the only surnamey name that I like as a fn. I personally wouldn't use it, though.

I see it as a girl's name, but I think that's partly due to the fact that the first time I heard it was as the daughter of one of our posters. It's definitely one of the better surname turned FNs, I think. It could be NN Laney, too, for a more feminine feel.
