Gabrielle
Do you think Gabrielle is a classic, timeless name, or is it dated? I really dislike Gabby, but do you think it would automatically be shortened to that? WDYT of this name?

I think Gabrielle is classic and timeless. I find it to be a very pretty name that isn't overly popular. I don't like the NN Gabby at all, and I don't necessarily think it'd be shortened to that, especially if you call her by her full name or by another nickname. There may be a few people here and there who call her Gabby, but if she doesn't like it, she could always correct them.I, personally, like the nicknames Ellie, Brielle, and Abby.

Gabrielle could be Abby, actuallyI went through 10 years of school with a girl named Gabrielle; she went by Abby throughout. She absolutely despised 'Gabby' and had been called Abby since birth. Actually, all her sisters had beautiful names but were shortened:
Nicolette - Nikki
Gabrielle - Abby
Jacqueline - Jackie
Marguerite - Maggie

I definitely feel that Gabrielle is classic and timeless and I even like the nick Gabby. I don't think that nn is inevitable, though. She'd determine what her friends would call her.

I dont think any nn is a must for any full name. Some may assume, but I know many who have straightened people out with just one time "My name is Gabrielle, not Gabby".I really like Gabrielle - I dont know if I'd say its classic, but its certainly not dated.

I think Gabrielle is gorgeous, not dated at all. I hate Gabby too, but I think it would be fairly inevitable. If you really can't stand it, you should probably find a different name.

Gabrielle is nice, but I really love Gabriella. My fave nn is Gabe, with Ellie following close behind, but Bri or Elle are ok too.

I love Gabrielle! If you don't like Gabby, maybe just Gab. But, I do think people will tend to want to call her Gabby.

I like Gabrielle but can't stand the nn Gabby I prefer Bree or Brielle. I would only use Gabrielle as a middle name though.

I like Gabrielle, and I don't think it would automatcally nn Gabby. Brielle is a nice alternitive!

A personal favorite of mine. I think Gabby is a cute NN, but you could also use Brie or Elle / Ellie. Of course, it's not likely to be shortened unless you (or your daughter) answer to the nickname.

I like Gabrielle. Though, like you, I dislike Gabby. I think this nn could be avoided though, I don't think it would automatically shortened.

I don't like Gabrielle - bad associations. And yes, I'm sure Gabby would be an automatic nn, especially once she got to the late-elementary-early-middle-school age. Before that, her friends would probably call her whatever you call her.

I don't think Gabrielle is dated at all! I think it's a lovely name. I think the nn Gabby will be very common - especially among her friends; I can see kids shortening it to that. I personally love the name Gabrielle (and also Brielle) with the nn Gabby.

I really like the name Gabrielle, but yes, I despise the nn Gabby or Gab. I know a girl whose name is Gabrielle and her mom once said how she had to name her Gabrielle because she just loved it, but she despised the nn Gabby .. well guess what, her nn is Gabby!! Her mom said her friends at school just started to call her that automatically. I know a few other Gabrielles, all nnd Gabby or Gab, so I do think the nickname sort of comes with the name.
