Re: Questionnaire

1. What names are you thinking of most today?
> More traditional names than I'm used to liking. I usually lean more towards the the lesser used/wackier names, but I'm digging usual names later.2. Do you think its ok to have themed middle names in a sibset if you like all the names?
> Why the heck not? As long as it's nothing painfully tacky like Sarah Violin Bow, Marcus Drum Snare and Beth Kazoo Solo.3. Do you think it's ok to name a child after a book/movie character if it's not REALLY obvious, and you were passionate about the book/movie?
> Why do you have to name children AFTER people? Why can't you just get inspiration FROM people? I dearly love the name Hillel, but if I had a son that doesn't mean I'd name him Hillel AFTER this guy: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hillel_the_Elder. In fact, I first heard the name back in the mid 90's when I was going through my Red Hot Chili Peppers FanGirl phase and I was obsessed with Hillel Slovak. So that's where I got it from, so what? - doesn't necessarily mean I'm naming any theoretical son AFTER him. Naming a child AFTER someone, to me anyway, is like wishing all the traits etc of the original person on the child. There is no way in hell I'd wish my [again, theoretical] son a drug addiction and eventual overdose. If I were to name my potential daughter Rose after my great grandmother Rosa, that would mean I'd wish her all the traits of my grandmother: kindness, strength, and all that. Or am I way off in what honoring is all about? In any case, I don't like honoring names, so to answer the question simply... actually, no. There is no simple way to answer this for me. Refer back to my previous tangent about Hillel.4. Do you think in about 8 years time it'll be ok to call a boy Shiloh?
> I think you can call a boy whatever you want within reason (no RainbowHappyFunTimes for me, thank you) and it's fine. I hate expectations like that. Who says you can't mix names up? We're all created equally, right? So why aren't names equal then? Can anyone tell I'm on a warpath of sorts right now? (This isn't anything personal to do with the creator of the quiz. More the general idea behind the questions.)5. How do you find most of the names you put on your list, or have you just come across them over the years?
> Most of them I find randomly through this site, just going through the lists, or I get inspiration from other posters or books, movies etc.6. How long have you had a name list?
> Since I started on this site... so three years ago. But back before then, when I wrote more often, I kept lists of characters and put a lot of thought into them. 7. Do you write fiction/film scripts etc?
> I used to. Not so much anymore. I've got hardly any time for myself, let alone for writing.8. What's your least favourite name atm?
> It has always been and will always remain Abigail.9. What's the first combo that comes into your head right now? Quick!!!
> Hillel Akiva, because it's my top boy combo and I was on a rant about Hillels earlier.10. Do you think pets should have pet names (e.g. Fluffy) or people names, or do you not really care?
> I don't think they should have to have one or the other. It's up to the owner. There are four dogs in the posession of my immediate family: Finley, Fergus, Monty and Karmella. The last two are both human names (Karmella was adapted from Carmela) but are more pet-y than the first two. Finley (name name) and Karmella (pet-y name) are both my own dogs and I came up with each name. It doesn't matter which way I go as long as I think the name suits the dog. I also helped in naming my boyfriends' parents' whippet puppy Desmond, which is quite a human name.11. What's the oddest combo (in your opinion) that you've ever liked?
> All of them. Take your pick:
Hillel Akiva (maybe not so odd because it does have its Jewish theme, but uncommon certainly)
Anaïs Montserrat (how many women do you know that are named either of these ?)
Athene Markéta
Noor Miléna
Citra Luz
Dita Shalom
(same question of all of these.)
12. Do you go through phases with your names, or do you tend to stick with most of them?
> I go through phases with some, but the good ones stick.13. If you're planning on having children, how many would you want?
> I'm not, and I don't want any.14. Is there one name you'd really like to use, but feel like you can't for some reason or other? If so, what name and why.
> I don't think there is one... maybe Desmond, now that it's been used on a dog I know. My boyfriend's dog to boot. So if I had a child by him, we couldn't very well name it Desmond. It would have a puppy twin of the same name. Ugh.15. Do you like nature/word names or think they're a bit too weird and non-namey?
> Not usually, and rarely anything like River or Hawk or Pheonix. I am growing quite fond of Rue, and Lily's always been a favorite. Azucena means madonna lily in Spanish, and it's on my PNL. There's Nyx which is "night" in Greek. Sunny Soleil, starry Stella. I don't mind Blanca and it means "white". Melancia is cool and it means "watermelon" in Portuguese. I do like quite a few place names. India, Israel, Ireland, Verona, Salvador, Paris, Virginia... But again, nothing obvious like Patience or Comfort.
