Dalia and Delia
I'm starting to really like these but then I like a lot of -lia names.
Which do you prefer? I'm leaning towards Dalia at the moment.

I love Dalia but spelt Dahlia.

I like Dalia spelled Dahlia, but Delia as a nn for Cordelia is truly pretty! You never hear that name anymore.

DaliaBut I prefer Dahlia. Delia reminds me of Delia Smith.

I strongly prefer Delia. It's a much prettier name, in my opinion.I do like Dalia, too, though...although only spelled Dahlia.

Like both, but I might prefer Dahlia to Dalia.

I prefer Dalia. It's beautiful, and I think of two Israeli actresses of the past, Daliah Penn (she played Annette in the 1960s "Forsyte Saga" that's available on video) and Daliah Lavi (OK, so the spelling differs, but still!).
Delia (pronounced dee-lee-uh; I've never heard any other version)lacks the sultriness of Dalia for me. It's the name of a famous English TV cook (now in her 60s), Delia Smith.
For a more exotic feel there's the Hebrew Odelia.

I like them both but I think I prefer Dalia. I would spell it Dahlia. Did you consider Adelia?

I love Dalia! It's gorgeous and really underused. Delia sounds hickish, trashy and incomplete to me, sorry.

I love Delia!I'm also fond of Dalia / Dahlia.

I like Dalia better, I think it rolls off the tongue a little easier.
But I prefer the spelling Dahlia.

I STRONGLY prefer Delilah.Delia sounds like 'the liar' and Dalia reminds me of The Black Dalia. I prefer Dalia than the liar.

Deliais pronounced DEE-lee-ah. Sounds nothing like "the liar."

I've also heard it DEEL-ya.Do you have the clothing store Delia's where you live? My mother had to ask them how to pronounce it every time she went in. :] They've said both DEE-lee-ah and DEEL-ya.

Yesand DEEL-ya, DEEL-ee-ah, etc. are all fairly common pronunciations (or so I've been led to believe). We don't have a Delia's in our town, but yes, I'm in the States and have shopped there.Weird. I've never thought there would be any pronunciation difficulties with it. It always seemed so straightforward to me.

I always have pronounced it as deh-lie-ah, and so has anyone else I've heard it from.. You probably live somewhere other than here.

Both are good, you couldn't be wrong with either.

LOVE both.If I absolutely had to pick one, I'd go with Dalia. Delia is sweet and wonderful, but it makes me think of someone a little ditzier than Dalia, who seems more serious and a bit classier. I also prefer Dalia to Dahlia, even though I'd give them identical pronunciations. What about Cordelia nn Delia? That was my favorite use of Delia.
