You know, when I was a kid Beulah was often mentioned as the quintessential ugly name. It was one of those names reserved in the exclusive club, along with Adolph and Bertha, of "names that will forever be excluded from use on an actual person and doomed to obscurity."

But now that I have met a toddler named Gladys, I say you can't write any name off.

And while I would never use it, I can even see how some people might begin to appreciate or even like it.
