Any thoughts on Phaedra?

Beautiful name - it's different and pretty and has a great sound. I think it will be on my list if I ever have a daughter - though whether or not my fiance will like it too will be another matter...

I went to high school with a Phaedra and she pronounced it FAY-druh. I think it can be used without any problems.

I've read the tragedy by Jean Racine and I really, really dislike Phaedra as a name and personally I consider it unusable. Besides bad associations I don't like the sound of it.

The world's most outstandingly bad song is about a woman named Phaedra.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sb-SVPJM4L4

Is it pronounced FAY-drah? I kind of like the sound of it, but the myth bothers me. I wouldn't want to name my daughter after a girl who killed herself just because the guy she liked didn't like her back.

I really like it with the pronunciation FAY-druh. I think it's usable.

I love it. I think it's only a little bit fanciful, not more so than Daphne. But the mispronunciation FAY-dra is so dirt-common that it would annoy me to rage, if Phaedra was my name.

Eep, I actually thought it was FAY-dra, too. Just had a look through the comments for the name - do you use FEE-dra? Is that the traditional pronounciation?

I've got to read Hippolytos for college so when I hear the name Phaedra it makes me think of the mythological character. The name sounds and looks pretty but I don't think it is usable.
