Gideon and Maybelle
Two questions.
1. WDYT of Maybelle? I think i like it but I am not sure
2. Does Gideon sound to similar to Ian to be in the same immediate family?
thanks

1. I don't care for Maybelle. It sounds too cutesy to me. I love May though.2. Gideon and Ian are both great names, but they're a bit much for immediate family members unless one is a middle name and the other is a first name or both are middle names.

I'd never thought about Gideon and Ian in that way! Interesting ... I'm used to Gideon shortening to Deon, so it wouldn't matter here, and with that strong stress on the GI I wouldn't expect it to be an issue.Mabel, yesyesyes. Maybelle is daft. Nothing to do with May, nothing to do with -belle, just the kind of name a child would give her imaginary friend.

I don't like Maybelle... at all. It just isn't appealing to me. Gideon and Ian don't sound that much alike. And Gideon could always go by Gid instead.

I love the name Maybelle although if I used it I would probably always call her Belle. I don't think Gideon and Ian are too similar.

Gideon and Ian are similar, but i think it is workable, just.Maybelle looks a bit pet like, Mabel is much better and a lovely name

1.) Way too cutesy, I think.
2.) Awesome! I love Gideon nn Gidders. I wouldn't do Gideon and Ian as brothers, but father and son would be fine.

I was afraid Maybelle would be too cutsy, I can see her as a spunky 5 year old but after that not so much, although she could go by May. hmmm
That is exactly why I was asking about Gideon, my Husbands name is Ian and I have loved the name Gideon forever but was afraid it was too close. This all came about after he commented on how Lillian would be "Lil' Ian

hee hee very cute :) You so have to use it now. I like Gideon and think it's fine with Ian.

How about just Mae/May and then a belle middle name?
Mae Bellatrix
Mae Christabel
Mae Claribel
Mae Isabelle
Mae Rosabel
Maybelle could be a very cute nickname for something like that.I don't think Lilian is too close either, since the emphasis for both Lilian and Gideon is on the "non-Ian" syllable. Tell your husband it's creative honouring! :o)
