Hope or Faith (more)
My favorite virtue names. Just wondering which one you like best. If you had to choose one for your daughter today: Hope or Faith ?I like Hope because it's less common and a little unusual and because it has a nice sound. Faith looks better written down, in my opinion. Also it seems stronger. When you have faith, you really believe in something, hope just means hoping. Still I like them both a lot. I'm not religious, and I've heard many times that Faith is used mainly by very religious people. I don't mind people thinking that really, though.Another short question: If you had to use KAY-lee, would you spell it Kayley or Kaley and why?

Depends what you pair it with. I like Sakura Hope and Erika Faith as combos, but don't think I'd like Sakura Faith or Erika Hope quite as much, though they might still be ok.I think Kayley or Kayleigh (or maybe even Kailey) look better than Kaley... Kaley just feels like something's missing. I think Kayley Faith sounds better than Kayley Hope... But Hope Kayley sounds a bit better than Faith Kayley... in case that's relevant to the whole thing... if not, ignore it.

Both Hope and Faith sound heavy-religious and I'd avoid them for that reason. If I had to, I'd use Faith for its absence of rhymes: unlike Hope, dope, soap, elope, mope ...I would never use KAYlee, but if I heard it, I'd expect to see Kayley.Virtue names. Hmm. Joy; Beatrice; Clemency; that's about it.

You could always use a foreign version of the names Hope and Faith if you are not sure about using the English ones.
Kaylee, actually. Kaley looks like it should be like Cali, Columbia to me, and -ley is better, but isn't quite right for this name imo.

Hope & Kayley.

Definitely Faith. Aside from the fact that it's my best friend's name, I love the nn Fay or Fae. Hope doesn't have any nns. I'd spell it Kayley or Kaylee or Kailey, because Kaley just looks like it's missing something.

Faith. I'm religious but I'm really cynical, and a lot of times hope leads to disappointment, but faith doesn't (at least IMHO).I'd spell KAY-lee Kaley out of your spellings because the extra Y makes it look more juvenile.

I'd pick Faith. I do like Hope, but I just find Faith prettier, both by sound and written down. I do know Faith is used by some families as an expression of their religious conviction. It's also used by some families because they like the sound, or they like virtue names, or for a thousand other reasons. I would not assume that a Faith comes from a religious family, any more than I would with a Joshua, Bethany, or Gabriel. It's a name too well used by too diverse a group of families for me to ascribe to any one image of it. All that just to say I think anyone should be able to use Faith without fear. :)Between Kayley and Kaley, I'd pick Kayley. It's the most straightforward, pronunciation-wise.

I like the sound of Faith better. Something about Hope sounds heavy and unatractive to me. I know a little girl named Hope, she is adorable, but I still can't love this name. I feel the same way about Dove. I knew a gorgeous girl growing up named Dove... I never liked the name. It just doesn't sound pretty to me.Kayley looks more like it is suppose to sound.

I'd use Faith. I don't really like the sound of Hope as a name. Kaley. It looks nicer to me.

Hope!I love this name, it's gorgeous, simple, and elegant. I'd spell it, Kaley, because I prefer it over Kayley.

Gosh i love both, I personally would probably use Hope more, as it feels more like me, but I love Faith more I think, Faithie is adorable for a little girl.I'd spell it Kaylee or Kayley.

Hope.Faith is not terrible and it has a nice sound, but I prefer Hope. Mostly because IMO hope is one of the most important things in life. So I disagree with you in that faith should be stronger. :)I'd spell KAY-lee Kayley because Kaley doesn't look right.

I like Hope best. I used to like Faith a lot and not like Hope. I've slowly stopped liking Faith and then I started liking Hope only recently. I've never really thought about religious people naming their children Faith. I've never assumed anyone was religious because they had a daughter named Faith. I like Hope for the very same reasons you do. I think it's nice for a middle name, but it's strong enough to be a first name. As for KAY-lee, I think the spelling Kayley tells you how to pronounce it better then Kaley, but I think Kayley looks a little sloppy. I like Kaley for it's looks and Kayley for it's easier to guess how to pronounce it. I guess it comes down to which is more important. I think I would use Kayley.

I like both Faith and Hope. I agree that Faith seems "stronger" than Hope. However, I would hesitate, personally, to use it. I would not be okay with people thinking I'm religious, even though there are different kinds of faith. Thus, I would choose Hope. Plus, for me, Hope would be really cute because I grew up near a place called Port Hope. I do feel they're both kind of weak as first names though. They are a little too cutesy and tacky-sounding. I prefer Kaley. It looks "cleaner" and far less cutesy.

Thanks! It actually surprises me it's so strongly associated with religion. I mean you can have faith in anyone and anything not only in god.

I prefer Hope.
Kayley because i'd pronounce Kaley as Kal-EE

Thank you! Yeah Kaley could be pronounced KAL-ee and KAY-lee, so maybe Kayley would be better for KAY-lee.
