Please vote in my polls; and a question on Aneurin / Aneirin (m) (ETA 5th poll)
I've got five polls up today and I'd be glad of your votes and any feedback / corrections / suggestions / improvements, etc.http://www.behindthename.com/polls/205683

http://www.behindthename.com/polls/205676ETA: http://www.behindthename.com/polls/205677Also, I watched, "We'll Take Manhattan" last night and wondered about the lead actor's name, Aneurin. How is it pronounced? I never cared for it in the past because it reminded me of an aneurysm. But now I'm not so sure if I've got the right pronunciation. It's from Aneirin and one of the nns listed is Nye. So does it have a long "i" sound? Or is that just for Aneirin? Or have I got it all turned around the wrong way? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Voted...butThe last link didn't work for me...it looks like the number at the end is a digit too short.

So sorry. What is it about that poor poll that I keep messing it up? I've fixed it now, hopefully. Thanks for the vote and pointing it out.In the future you can always find my polls, and many from others even more interesting, under the poll section of this site. :-)

Voted! But there are only 4 links and you said 5 polls.I can't vouch for accuracy, but someone left a comment on Aneirin saying that "eu" is the same as "ai" in most Indo-European languages.

Ooops!I was wondering why that poll was getting so few votes compared to the others. Thanks!http://www.babycenter.com/polls/205677

And re Aneurin, it's one of those Welsh regional pronunciation things. I'm from North Wales and I pronounce Aneurin roughly like an-AY-rin, but Aneurin Bevan, who popularised the 'Nye' nn, was from the Valleys and they tend to pronounce eu more-or-less like English 'eye'

Exceptionally helpful! Thanks. :-)

I believe it's pronounced sort of like Aneurysm is. Instead of -ysm, you have in. Like, an-urine. Which is... not okay.
Even if it does have a long I sound, it still sounds really strange.

Shucks. Have you actually heard it that way? And where are you from, if I may ask?

a-NIE-rin, long i in the middle (thus the Nye). Eu and Ei are both pronounced with a long i, to my knowledge. I've never felt one way or the other about Aneurin, but it's sneaking up on me lately I think.

Yay. The long "i" sound is what I was hoping for. Thanks! :-)

I'm from the UK and I've always heard both Aneurin and Aneirin with a long "i" sound, so Nye makes sense as a nn. I could be wrong but I think 'eu' has a long "i" sound in Welsh.

Oh, good. That's my preferred pronunciation. Thanks for the information, including where you are from. It really helps. :-)
