Thoughts on various names
I'm interested in any further or new thoughts on these names, i.e. if they are evocative of anything or work IRL or just in literature, etc. which one you like best and why.Callista
Catriona/Katrina
Elektra
Tressa (not in database but apparently means third in Cornish)
Saskia
Georgia
India(added last two)

Callista had its 15 minutes' worth a few years ago; Callie or Cal would be OK nns.
Both Catriona and Katrina would work wonderfully well IRL
Elektra, not so much. Too many sparks.
Tressa sounds like a cheap version of Theresa.
Saskia is trying too hard.
Georgia is unsurprising, but I much prefer Georgina.
India shortens to Indie. Nope.

I really like Katriona with a "K" instead of a "C".
India is a pretty name as well. Perhaps that's because I knew an India in middle school that was absolutely gorgeous...
Don't really like the others, sorry.

first impressionsThe first thoughts/associations that come to mind:Callista - Calista Flockhart and Callisto from Xena Warrior Princess...
Katrina - Hurricane Katrina and an annoying girl I knew in high school...
Elektra - Matricide? But I like the sound, anyway...
Tressa - interesting, fresh, almost sci-fi with the Tr sound...reminds me of Trilby
Saskia - I have no frame of reference for that...
Georgia - Movies: Georgia Rules and Gone with the Wind...I prefer Georgiana.
India - It sounds lovely..but sharing a name with a country seems rather a heavy concept to me...

Callista - I prefer Calista, but it's a beautiful name, no matter which spelling is used. I do think of Calista Flockhart, but I don't think it's a "one person" name that's off limits to others. I try not to think of that scary icepick Callista Gingrich. Ever.Catriona/Katrina - If you're in the US, I think Catriona is a needless complication. Katrina is attractive, and I don't think there's any reason not to use it unless you live in an area that was impacted by the hurricane. Elektra - Eh, this feels like the least usable name here, but I don't totally dislike it. I prefer Elettra.Tressa - It sounds like a shampoo. The "tress" part is too obvious for me, I guess. Saskia - My only association is Rembrandt. I like it, and I think it falls into that good zone of names that seem exotic but are still very accessible. Georgia - Gorgeous. Such a warm, rich name.India - Oh, India. I love it, but it also makes me uncomfortable. I can understand why it's so often trashed as a Rich White Name, a relic held over from the bad, old, imperialistic ages, but I also see it as a lovely and evocative place name with a decent history of use. I'm conflicted, so it's a GP for me. I'd be happy to meet an India, though.

Elektra is a favorite-but agree with you on usability. Not sure if I should consider this or not since it would not be a formal name change-just what I call her...BUT what I call her my morph into permanence.
I share similar feelings re: India. Like Georgia but it seems a bit duller than Callista and Katrina. Agree with you about the spelling complications-would stick with simpler one.

Callista -- I think beauty when I see or hear Callista. Its meaning suits it perfectly. It's not overly common which is a bonus. I don't really have a mental image of what Callista would be like because I've only seen a couple in the media or in the news. She's a blank slate. I like that.Catriona / Katrina -- I like this name very much. While I lean toward original/default spellings, they're often problematic (i.e., Caitriona which I much prefer). It's very sweet and girlish yet spunky and certainly not weak. Katrina is a firebrand.Elektra -- Elektra is stunning and I love this original spelling. Would I ever use it? No. I believe it's one of those names that would be hard to own. I can picture the jokes (not that they'd be too awful, but still). Elektra's the type of name I'd either use in the middle or give to a pet.Tressa -- My children all have formal names so this does seem too much of a nn to me for Teresa and then I think how much better I like Tess and Tessa. The second thing I think of is hair. I do see its appeal, though.Saskia -- I've never liked it since it reminds me of Sasquatch which makes me think of Big Foot. I'd assume the family had a German or Scandinavian background. Other than that, I've never given this name much thought because I've never been interested in it one way or the other.Georgia -- This is another classic that is, in turns, cute, spunky, gracious and sophisticated. My perception is of one who has it together in all ways yet she's not afraid to let her hair down and have fun. I like the playfulness of its nns too.

I like Catriona, Tressa and Georgia best.
Callista calls to mind calluses and blisters, Elektra gives me an image of someone in a skin-tight satin catsuit with blue hair and the other two just don't appeal much.Tressa has always been a very unusual name in the UK, but it has a long history of use, so it doesn't seem flimsy to me, just interesting. Have you considered Tessa?

Hi Pie,
I had considered that Tessa was similar-but liked Tressa better. Tessa is FAR more common here in the US,I like it OK but wouldn't use it. it is a relief to know that Tressa is NOT made-up, and that it has history. It was the only one my DH picked off of my new list, then he gave me the go-ahead to call her whatever, as long as we don't change it formally (which can come later if this all works). Tressa was the only one he agreed to the formal change on, as I mentioned.I KNEW something bothered me about Callista, I think you've hit the nail on the head (no pun intended). So I came back to my original list....

Callista: Very strongly associated with Ally McBeal. Also now associated with Newt Gingrich's skanky-looking wife who looks like an aging call-girl who married her old rich client.Catriona/Karina: Catriona is all "Looka me, I'm being all Celtic and stuff! How uncultured you all are not to know the o is silent! Ha ha ha!" Katrina is cute. It is associated with the hurricane, but I don't think it's unusable. I would avoid using it if any siblings have the names of well-known hurricanes: Camille, Isabel, Andrew, etc.Tressa: Sounds like baby talk for Theresa, maybe. Also like a doll with lots of hair that can be styled and washed. In fact I think there was an old doll called Tressa or Tressie that had that kind of hair.Saskia: Sounds cold, like gourmet ice cream or a mean Scandinavian exchange student who charms away all the American girls' boyfriends.

The only name from that list I like is Callista. I love it. I think it is great by itself, but also lends itself to a few good nicknames too, just in case.
Catriona is my second favorite. I think either would fit well with the names of your other children (assuming that's why you're considering these).Tressa sounds made up, and like it was meant to be Tessa or Teresa but something went wrong. I don't like Elektra for a person at all. I also think it's the least fitting name for the sibset and it would stand out greatly.Saskia is okay, just nms. I keep wanting to say Sasha. I think it would fit into the sibset okay.I don't like Katrina very much, but I have bad associations with it.

Hi there,At this point it would just be an informal renaming process that would possibly morph into baby's real name (i.e. pet name). The only one Dh liked was Tressa, he reneged on Callista, after fewer than 2 days he told me he no longer liked it, so we revisited the process and Tressa was all we came up with-but it seems too nick-namey to me (for Theresa) So I am going back to the drawing board with just thinking of practical but fun to say names that I might like to use or be called myself. Elektra was always a favorite but even as a nickname I think it would be hard to pull off IRL, so I am getting opinions on the above.

Why does he keep reneging! Have you tried punching him.

Hi Ludwig,
LOL! I can't punch him in the face b/c he is a full foot taller and 80 pounds heavier!!!!I don't know, but honestly, this is how the whole think got started. He never wants to talk about it or commit to anything(except Rosalie now, for obvious reasons) I was taking a while to warm up to Callista and he said it had taken me too long (less than 48 hrs) and so that was that, we weren't using it, he doesn't like it. Then he allowed me to have 45 minute discussion on Sunday, where the only name we winnowed it down to was a new one, Tressa, but I tried that out and I am feeling it's too nick-namey. ETA, even tonight he agrees Tressa sounds too much like a nickname, the very name he agreed on 48 hrs ago, LOL! SO like I said, I'm back to square one, and he's told me I can call her whatever I want-just trying to figure that out, picking from among my favorites.
