Liana
I've always liked this one but didn't realize it was a "nature name" until today... and boy do I love my nature names :) I think it very practical sounding without being so run-of-the-mill but I'm still afraid that a Liana would get lost in a sea of Leahs, Lillians, Lillianas. Ellas, Elianas, Arianas, and so on. I have the same sort of concerns for Linnea. Wdyt about the name in general and her chances of standing out against other similar sounding names? And which do you prefer between Linnea and Liana?

As much as I like both Liana and Linnea, I have the same concern you do. There are so many popular names right now that are heavy on Ls, Ns, As, and Is, it would be easy for Liana and Linnea to disappear into the herd. Between Liana and Linnea, I'd pick Liana just because I've loved it longer, and I love that it's a botanical name. Of the two, though, I think Liana is in greater danger of being lost in the sea of similar names; it's simply heard more often, at the end of Juliana, Eliana, and Liliana, so it blends in more.

I know a few Lianas and a Leanas and I can definitely see that name becoming run-of-the-mill. When most people would expect a Lillian, Leah, or a variation of one of those, Linnea is refreshing and unexpected.

It's on my name list as a nickname for Liliana... which is better than the overdose of Lilys.

I like Liana. It's short and sweet and not boring and fits just about any girl. It's much better than Leanne/Lianne. I think anyone called Liana would definitely not get lost amidst all the Leahs/Lillians/etc. As for Linnea and Liana, I love Linnea and would choose it over Liana. However, Liana is probably more usable in English-speaking countries.

Liana is very pretty and I really like it in theory, but I agree that it blends in with a ton of other trendy names in practice. I also find it a tad insubstantial. It's such a wispy, light sound without a lot of substance to back it up. I love Linnea as well. It's a bit more familiar, so I don't think it would get lost as much, and it doesn't have as many trendy sounds as Liana.Linnea gets my vote.

A Liana might well submerge, but if she was a Juliana she'd have lots of options.I've got a Liana colleague - very competent, sensible woman. Can't say I love the name, but it's OK.

It's ok... Not amazing, but ok... and a nice change from some of the current trends.
I prefer Linnea, but Liana's nice.

Liana is gorgeous. I see what you mean about it getting lost in the sea of other similar popular names, especially since -iana names are very popular for little girls these days. I would be more inclined to use Linnea, which I think is beautiful and have on my list. While the Lin- part is reflective of current trends in terms of sound, most of the popular names end in -lynn, -lyn, etc. rather than begin with Lin- or Lyn-.
