Amanda
I really like Amanda. I know it's been overused in the 80s but it still sounds fresh to me, probably because most of the Amandas I knew always went by Mandy. I dislike Mandy, but I like Amy as a nickname for it. I also love the meaning. I like Amandine as well. What do you think of Amanda and Amandine? Does Amy work? Is Mandy avoidable? (I know I can't do anything if she decides to go by it, but with Mandy sounding so dated I doubt that she would).

I like Amandine, though I wouldn't use it where I live. I think it's a little too chock-full-of-almonds to work here. Amanda is beautiful. I've always thought so, and its former mega popularity doesn't bother me, either. It really doesn't need a nickname, but Amy is not so out there that it won't work if you want it to. Mandy is mostly avoidable if you introduce her as Amanda or Amy and correct anyone who tries to call her anything else. I don't think it would be a problem, honestly. The Amandas I've known have overwhelmingly been just "Amanda."

I really like Amanda on it's own as well. Mandy certainly isn't my favorite nickname and I think I've only known one Amanda that went by Mandy and that was a little girl I babysat so ... 90's baby not 80's! lol

Amanda: I love it, always have. So pretty but not fancy. I knew several growing up and only one was regularly called Mandy. She stopped going by it when she got older.Amandine: I associate this with green beans because at a restaurant where I used to work green beans amandine were a regular vegetable of the day.Amy: As a nickname for Amanda I think it's doable but a stretch. I don't think Amanda needs a nn really, and Amy for Amanda sounds like hedging your bets: "I love the name Amy but it seems so short, so we'll name her Amanda and call her Amy."
