Convince Me
I want you to convince me why I should love or hate the name Anneliese pronounced AN-eh-lees. I want you to pick a side and do your best to defend it. You can choose to play devil's advocate if you want to, all I want is you to convince me why I should either hate or love Anneliese. You can even use examples, like historical figures who either brightened or destroyed Anneliese's image or personal anecdotes, etc... Just do your best to convince me why Anneliese deserves my undying love or hate.Have fun. :)

I love it, though only pronounced ann-ah-LEESE. I intend to use either Anneliese or Anneliesa as a future middle name to honor both my mother (Anne) and the SO's mother (Lisa).

Hate it for being a mispronunciation! AN-eh-LEE-seh is at least authentic, though where I live it's popularity is fading.

Anneliese is a beautiful name (really, you need convincing?)! Listen to it, it sounds like music! I realise that I am unable to support my argument with any historical figures or whatever, but I have known two people with this name (actually I think they both spell it Annelise, which doesn't look nearly as nice) and they are both very nice people. An Anneliese wouldn't need to be Anneliese H or Anneliese K or something, because it's not that common. There are heaps of nice nicknames for example Anna, Annie, Annelie, Lisa, Liese, Lise... Therefore, if you don't like the slightly frilly nature of the name (although elegant would be a better word), you can easily choose a nickname. From your 'my favourite names' signature, I can see that you like some very elegant names - Serafina, Artemis, Callisto, Augustine, Genevieve, Marguerite - and Anneliese would fit with them so well! Anneliese deserves your undying love!

I was hoping more people would understand that I wanted this to be sort of a debate game, partially because I think it's fun but also because you should receive different types of answers when you ask a different question, I was hoping to see some more polarized points to why I should love or hate the name because I feel kind of blah about it yet it seems like a name that I should really like. Maybe I wasn't clear enough about what I wanted or maybe most people don't find debates to be as fun as I do. Oh well you, if there is a winner to this mock debate it is you since you understood what I was asking and you made many solid arguments as to why I should love it. Congratulations! *throws confetti* :)Thank you and thank everyone else for your replies.P.S. I wish I could say that Anneliese now has my undying love but I'm at least feeling a little warmer to it than I was.

I don't particularly hate it, it just seems too . . . insubstantial, I guess. I will say it sounds far more fetching with the original German pronunciation: ah-ne-LEE-zə. It lends weight to the name, gives it a touch more character, and makes less nasally/whiny-sounding.

With that pronunciation by an American English-speaker, the name sounds pretentious and needlessly complicated. If it's pronounced Anna-Leese, I see no particular problem with it though I don't much care for it myself.
