Killian/Cillian
This name came up while my fiancé and I were talking last night. We both like it and said we could consider using it for future children. He likes it spelled Killian, while I prefer Cillian better. What's your opinion on the name? Which spelling do you prefer?

Think i posted in the wrong place :) My son's name is Kylian. I think it looks better with a K than a C.

I love it, it is our top choice for a boy. DH and I both prefer the Killian spelling.

It's the bad guy in Iron Man 3. Heh. I think I like the look of Cillian more but I imagine there would be a lot of pronunciation issues. I know the actor Cillian Murphy is endlessly having to tell people how to pronounce his name. But, of course, he's surrounded by horrendously stupid paparazzi and celebrities so I imagine your kid would be around different types... I like it. It's a little rough and slimy at the same time, though. A good name for a villain. But I'm sure that if I met a little adorable Cillian I would warm up to the name fairly quickly.

Killian makes more sense for an American boy, Cillian spits in the face of a very basic rule of pronunciation we all learn in school. If you lived in Ireland where people generally already knew how to pronounce such names, I'd say it wasn't a problem, but you don't and it is.
I'm not fond of Killian anyway, I don't care for the Kill sound and I also am reminded of Killian's Red, the beer.

I actually really like it, though I can't seem to explain why. Cillian is my favourite spelling, not just because of Cillian Muprhy but also because it omits the 'kill-' in writing.

I like it, despite the beer association. I prefer the spelling Killian, even though I normally like C better than K. But Cillian looks like it should be pronounced with a soft c, just doesn't look "correct" to me that way.

I like it. Of those tow spellings I prefer Killian, but my favorite is Kilian. Looks less like "kill Ian". Killian doesn't bother me that much though, and I'm not sure how many people that would actually think about the "kill Ian" part.

I dislike it because it has the word 'kill' in it.
If I had to choose I would go for Killian because Cillian looks like it should have a soft C sound, like silly-an.

I used to be lukewarm about this name; however, the actor Cillian Murphy has won me over to the I-like-and-appreciate-it side. Sometimes, all it takes is a positive association! I will admit that, in English, Cillian isn't the most intuitive spelling, but, with that said, I dislike Killian because of the "kill-" part of the name. To me, it looks like "kill Ian". Thus, Cillian is the spelling I would choose.
