Re: Betrys (f)
BET-rees does sound very unnatural, especially in my English Canadian accent. Sounds a little pretentious. I never considered the nn Beattie in all my years of liking Beatrice…that's awful. I don't know how I feel about Betrys potentially being shortened to Betty. - Hola

I had a distant aunt who was always known as Beattie; I think it's a UK peculiarity. But it is very dreadful. My Beatrice daughter goes by Bea very happily. I asked her if anyone ever called her Honey, and she smiled menacingly and said "It has been tried occasionally, but never twice by the same person".
