Makaya
Today, I met a cute little African girl who was the daughter of the janitor. Her name was "Makaya" (NOT Mikayla) and pronounced "mick-kie-ah". I thought it was a beautiful name, but at first thought it was made up, but then I learnt it was a variant of Micaiah. What are your opinions?

I love the sound so much! I really wanted a boy named Makaio. Since Micaiah seems too Old Testament prophet to me, I might spell it Makaia. To me, that gets the Kai pronunciation across better than Makaya.
Cool name, though.

I misread it as Makayla.I really do like Micaiah though (but I prefer it for a boy).

There is a pair of twins in my daughter's school, white American twins, called Makaya and Mikayla. I know for a fact that's how Mikayla is spelled but not 100% sure about Makaya. Not crazy about it, it really does look like a typo of Makayla.

The sound is inoffensive enough but like you said, it seems made-up and tryndee. I'd have assumed it was a new take on Makayla.
