Re: list of Unisex Names - WDYT???
Aaren: This doesn't strike me as unisex, just kre8yv and confusing.
Addison: Don't call this unisex either, it was never popular on boys before it got to be popular for girls. Don't like it anyhow.
Akira: I imagine a Japanese person would give you an argument as to this name's supposed unisex status. I suppose some English speakers might think it was a girls' name because it sounds so much like Kira and Shakira etc, but I for one would prefer not to give Japan any more reason to laugh at Americans.
Alex: It's okay on a boy, but seems stereotypically tomboy on a girl.
Alexis: I consider this a female name except among Hispanics, where it is somewhat popular on boys also. I like it for a girl, it's really the only Alex name I like for girls.
Amal: Don't see this as a female name at all.
Angel: Pronounced like the winged Xmas being, it's all girl. Pronounced the Spanish way, it's male. It's all right for a boy in that context, though I think Angelo is sexy and sophisticated. On a girl it's like almost a signal that the owner is a brat.
Ashley: I don't care what anybody says, this is a girls' name. A favorite of mine.
Ariel: This is a girls' name to me.
Avery: So unisex it's just colorless.
Beverly: Woman's name. Middle-aged woman.
Blair: Girls' name, and seems dated even though it might not be.
Brook: You never see this spelling on either sex. It's all girl.
Cameron: Mostly male. Camryn is female.
Carter: All male.
Cassidy: All female.
Chandler: pretty much all male. Pompous besides.
Channing: All male.
Dakota: Mostly male, but I can see it either way.
Darcy: All female. Ridiculously metrosexual on a male.
Daryl: Male, all male.
Devon: A rare unisex name that I like about equally on either sex.
Dominique: All female unless we're in France. Dominic is male.
Dylan: All male.
Eden: All female.
Elian: All male, and solely associated with famous-for-fifteen-minutes Elian Gonzales.
Emery: See Avery, except this is also stuff you use to file your fingernails.
Ennis: This is all male and I don't see where anybody gets the idea it's unisex. It's rare enough on boys.
Esmé: All female, and see above.
Gwynedd: No idea, ask somebody in Wales.
Hadley: Probably female.
Harley: About equal, and also very popular on dogs.
Harlow: Probably female, but only because of the Hollywood connection.
Harper: All female, all ugly.
Hilary: All female.
Indiana: All female. If you were a boy would you want your name ending in the anna sound?
Indigo: All female, all silly.
Ivory: All female, all soap.
Jace: Probably all male.
Jamie: Sounds so wimpy and whiny on a boy.
Jocelyn: All female.
Jody: Mostly female. Very dated for a boys' name.
Jordan: See Devon, except I don't like Jordan.
Joyce/Joisse: Joyce is a woman's name, and Joisse just looks weird.
Jules: I can see a tomboyish Julia or Julie calling herself Jules, or any Julius who doesn't want to be called Julius, but I can't really see it as a full name for either.
Justice: Too common-noun to say either way.
Kelly: Mostly female, it was much more popular as a girls' name and as a boys' name it became dated faster.
Kelsey: All female.
Kendall: Most all female.
Kennedy: All female, all annoying.
Lane: Female.
Laverne: All female, all old.
Lee/Leigh: Lee is mostly male but can go either way. Leigh is all female.
Leonide: Can't see it on anybody, it sounds like a spray to kill lions.
Leslie: All female now.
Logan: All male, all annoying.
London: Ditto.
Loren: All 60yo male lumberjack. Lauren is all female.
Madison: See Ashley, except I don't really like Madison.
Marley: All dog.
Mason: All male.
Mckenzie: See Madison.
Merlyn: Not sure.
Merle: Haggard. Male.
Micaiah: The only one I know, spelled differently, is female.
Morgan: All female.
Noel: All British male. Noelle is female.
Paris: Female.
Peyton: See Avery.
Phoenix: Female.
Presley: Female, mostly.
Piper: Female and stupid.
Quinn: See Avery, but more female.
Raven: All female, all goth.
Reagan: Female.
Reese: Mostly female.
Riley: See Avery.
River: See Justice.
Robin/Robyn: Never been especially male in the US, but Robyn is absolutely female.
Rowan: See Justice.
Sage: Mostly female.
Sasha: All female, very cat.
Shannon: All female.
Sidney: Mostly female now, very out of style for boys like similar names Stanley and Morris.
Skyler: See Avery.
Spencer: All male.
Stacey: See Kelly.
Taylor: See Avery.
Tracy: See Kelly.
Winter: All female.
Willow: All female. Post a Response
I think, therefore I judge.
