Re: Sightings (Including Triplets)

Are these from your job? if I discovered that a nurse was posting baby names -including my daughter's - online I'd be very upset.

Really? I didn't say they were from my job.
Even if I had, and it was your child, and I posted the name Miriam, how do you know that your daughter isn't one of the 3 Miriam's born that week? Do you really think your child is so special that people will immediately see their name and think, "Oh, that must be Miriam Marie, the daughter of Vivian and Joe." No. They don't.

no, I don't. I would say however that triplets would easily be spotted. And it doesn't matter if I could be identified or not. It would be a violation of my privacy by my nurse and that is a problem.
Its not a violation of your privacy if the information is not specific to you. Maybe you feel it is, but the law doesn't feel it is.
I agree with the other responders... I don't see why it would be a problem. The names are not specific with surnames or other identifying details.
How would it be different than those of us posting the name of newborns from our friends or that we see in the newspaper, etc?
As unique as a name might be... chances are there are others out there. My daughter is Clarisse Bituin - would you believe that there are three people with that name, just on facebook? And... I thought it was a crazy unique combo.
So... I guess I am assuming you would be upset if someone posted your daughter's first name online because you think they could either track it back to you, or you don't want people hearing the name and it becoming popular.

Neither. I just think it's unprofessional. As for not finding out - a poster was actually contacted by a student's parents after they found the post. It would just feel like a violation of my privacy for a nurse to put up my daughter's name.
she's hardly the first
And she gives no details as to the hospital, the babies' last names, or even when exactly they were born, and most of the names are so ordinary they could belong to anyone.

How is it any different from someone from any job posting names though? As long as they aren't giving out last names or anything. I post names I hear at work and so do others.
Yeah, I posted students' names when I worked at the schools and names from the care home. I never included last names or the name of the school/facility, so I never thought it was a problem. If it was, no one ever told me. :/
Yeah, I work for a bank and I've posted names of co-workers kids and straight up customers themselves. As long as there's no identifying info (like last names, the area you live in, where you work, whatever) it's not a problem. Even with babies you can't look up any info. I have my son's first, middle, last name and where he lives and nothing comes up with that info.
