Re: 2013 Canterbury babies, featuring Zaia and Poet
I like:
Alfred William. William's a bit boring, but it's sensible. Alfred is 10x better than Alfie. I mean, nicknames as first names annoy me quite a bit.
Anthony. I don't like Antony, looks like it's been spelled wrong.
Charlie - but only as a nickname, dammit! What's wrong with Charles and the nickname "Charlie"?!
Jack, again, as a nickname. Might make a good name for a cat/dog too, now that I think of it... Actually, I like Beau as a dog's name. Not good on a person, but every (well, both) of the dogs called Bo / Beau that I know are absolute sweethearts. So yeah, I'm rambling, but it's a cute name for a dog.
Matai's kinda cool.
Isaac Alexander is nice, might be too much with Reuben (which I like too).
Leo. Leo John is pretty stark, though, and sounds a little bit like 'legion'.
Anton
Oscar
I like Alexander, Samuel, Henry and William as a classic/safe sibset. Hate Lewes, though. How is that even pronounced? Like Lewis?
I could warm to Zaia in a GP / made-up / fantastical way on a girl, but on a boy...nah. Other thoughts:
Braxton is awful.
Fergus MacAndrew makes me laugh. There used to be a famous cat in St Andrew's called Fergus, so it makes me think of that.
Craig / Grant / Ernest (all mns) are just irredeemably ugly.
Perenara is terrible. It makes me think of 'perineum'.
Kaiden Ian Kevin is an awkward mix of faddy-trendy and terribly uncool.
Lachlan... I know some people love this name, but I just find it sickly, geeky and dorky.
Machlan - lol, what?
Jake William makes me go 'hmmm'. Jacob makes much more sense with Boston and Corban. Maybe it's just me...
James John is laughably dull.I like:
Saskia, and Fleur. Saskia Fleur would be neat. Instead they chuck in the ugly Aurelia and the childish Romy and ruin it. Eugh, of the sibset the only fn I don't hate is Laura, which I merely tolerate.
Genevieve
Georgia
Harriet
Maeve is ugly-cute.
Vivienne
Lilia is better than Liliana / Lily, not as good as Lillian. Still okay.
Leah - or rather Lea, is growing on me quite a bit.
Madeline
Matilda and Harry
Tahlia - I prefer a different spelling
Thea - although Fae is a terrible, terrible choice of middle name.
Zoe - but stuff like Zoey, Zowie etc makes me cringe.Other thoughts:
I hate Anastasia a stupid amount. I don't know why. It's OTT princessy.
Chevelle - seriously? Like 'cheval'?
Dana - there is no Dana, only Zuul. I love that film as much as the next person, but there's no escaping that line.
Havannah-Eden and Leziah are absolute stinkers!
Kate-Lyn... why two names?
Nancy - eugh, so dated.
Poppy Petal is maddeningly twee. It actually annoys me a tiny bit.
