The name isn't bad, but personally I don't like the name Israel, and David as a middle name makes it kind of repetitive when you take the last name into account.Israel is used here in Brazil, and its usage isn't confined to Jewish families. I know two guys named Israel. Both of them are Catholic. Portuguese and Spanish-speaking Catholics seem to use Old Testament names a lot more often than other Catholics. They're common in Spain and Portugal as well as Latin America. (I wonder if anyone else has noticed this besides me. Given that Iberia had a very influential Jewish community in medieval times, it isn't surprising. The Jews of medieval Spain and Portugal had a strong impact on the culture.)

I know a Hispanic Israel Jr, and he has brothers named Ilijah and Izaiah. I also know a Job from Mexico. Also, wasn't the nation of Israel named after someone with the name Israel? Then it would be more like Carolina or Virginia, where it was a personal name before a location name.
