I see Maya more often, but I also really like the more Greek-ish spelling Maia (like Gaia), which might be on the rise. Maja's okay, but I wouldn't associate that with England and people could have confusion with the spelling/pron.
I think the biggest thing is to not spell it too close to Mia (e.g. Miah, Miya would prob. be confused w/ Mia)
