Laverne
Does anyone like this name? For reasons that are unknown to me, it's currently one of my favorite girl names. I used to hate it.

No, but I do like Lavinia

If I didn't pronounce it exactly as the database says - lə-VURN - I might think it was ok. But any name with only "uh" vowels in it just clunks IMO. Nice looking, ugly sounding.

I want to like it because I knew a cool Laverne, but it seems tacky to me, even though she wasn't tacky.

I sort of like it. It makes me think of the female gargoyle from Disney's The Hunchback of Notre Dame, so it's very sassy, no-nonsense, older-lady to me. It's hard for me to imagine it on a child or teenager, but nicknames like Vernie and Verna make it a bit easier. The "lav" part sticks out a bit to me, though, so it also makes me think of sparkling toilets.Overall, I think it's an okay name, but not my personal favorite. I prefer Laverna to it.

Sparkling toilets, LOL. Not exactly a ringing endorsement, but better than dirty ones!

It's my uncle's middle name, and a source of great joy and teasing in our family. I think it has spunk. I could see it used today for a girl. It's not really my taste but the sound is pleasing and it could be argued as "retro chic".

It's so dated and countrified that it's actually the kind of name you'd hear used in a comedy sketch, like on the old variety show "Hee-Haw." Laverne and Lulu Belle and their simple-minded cousin Clem, for instance.

I actually met a woman named Lulu Belle last month! But I was cool. Didn't say WHAT? And offered in turn my own unremarkable Jean.

I dislike it. I find it's sound unappealing.
