Sightings + Napoleon
A few sightings from work:Benna - first name, girl, 20+
Grandjean - middle name, girl, 20+
Trella - first name, girl, 8Also twice this week I've met sibsets with the same first names; three sisters with the first name Tindra (they had two middle names each so I guess they went by one of their middle names) and two brothers named Carl Otto and Carl Oscar (went by Otto and Oscar). And what do you think of Napoleon? I've been thinking about Napoleon a lot lately and I can't decide what I think of it. A part of me thinks it's really cool and different but still very recognisable, another part thinks it's just too much.

but she wants to be sure 'cause you know sometimes words have two meanings

Napoleon's great. I think it's a really fun middle name. Napoleon Dynamite seems like a classic at this point, so I think it could still be hard to wear as a first name. The name sightings are all neat. I love weird IRL names.I also like the sibsets with the shared first names. Seems like the paperwork would be hell for the parents, but I don't object it to it in principle or anything like that. Carl Otto and Carl Oscar are both adorable, and I've always liked Tindra. I know brothers named Carlos Rafael and Carlos Roberto. I believe their dad is also Carlos. It's funny, but when they weren't around each other they both went by Carlos. Eh.

It's weird when siblings have the same name. I have a client at work named Yasmeen, she recently gave birth to another daughter named... Jasmin. I had to double check the name.I used to really like Napoleon. I still think it's a cool name, but too much for a FN. Leo/Leon would be nice nicknames though.

Brenna was kinda popular in my area in the late 80s and early 90s, so I can totally picture a mid to late twenties Brenna. It always seems a little huskier than your average feminine name. Grandjean is certainly interesting. It seems almost honoring. It has to be significant, just due to it's "strangeness". Trella is kinda cool though. Somehow it reads almost flippantly to me, like it's not serious. But maybe that is because of the similarity to "tra-la-la-la-la". I am not a fan of siblings with the same first name, and a choice like Tindra is crazy that you met three at once, let alone siblings! It must be highly significant to the family. The Carl variations seems a little more mainstream to me, like maybe a tradition. Still, not a fan, but it's not the end of the world.
As for Napoleon... it's very bold. I personally think it is a bit too much, but only because of the historical significance attached to the name. I am normally a big fan of bold choices like Bartholomew, Zacchaeus, Beauregard, etc... I think it's great to bestow such character on a child. However, Napoleon has a lot of outside connotations related to Mr. Bonaparte that I would classify it as over-the-top. Great pet choice though.

It was Benna, not Brenna. I guess it's an attempt at a feminine form of Ben.

Siblings who all have the first name? That's bizarre. I guess the idea could grow on me, though...Here's what I think when I hear Napoleon:1. Napoleon complex
2. Napoleon Dynamite
3. Neapolitian ice cream (I used to think it was called Napoleon ice cream)
4. Nepotism
5. French revolution and reign of terror
6. 19th century literature
7. That was the dog's name in Aristocats...
8. Huh, fun sounding name!I do think it's cool in a way, but I also think it's got too much other stuff going on to really work for a kid...at least for my hypothetical kid.
