My parents (mainly my mother) chose my name because she liked it, and erroneously believed that since it had been uncommon in her generation it would be uncommon in mine. My father was content with any name that wasnt chosen by his mother-in-law.

I have a string of middle names that figure in my passport but that I don't have to "officially" sign with (situation further complicated by having two nationalities) that are for honouring purposes, plus a dream my father had on what my name would be.
