Okay, I lacked that information, thanks. I still think the genus is known primarily for being deadly though, and the most common hallucinogenic mushrooms (here on the west coast at least) aren't Amanitas. So anybody who thinks "hallucinogenic" and not "poisonous" first when they see the name Amanita, also has only a little information.- mirfak

I only ever heard of the Fly Amanita so that was my only assocation!

Haha, well my only association was that I learned about amanitas as part of a unit on toxins and poisons in biology class. "Fly Amanita" rings a bell, actually! but I'm not sure where from ... the association that stuck with me was the "death cap." And I remembered that "shrooms" are something else. So high five, we both learned something.Was Amanita the name of a character in something?
