Gemma because I think Gillian is old fashion and Gemma sounds nicer

Gemma. I've always liked it and it's so much friendlier than Gillian.

Gemma is pretentious and also down-market: an unattractive mix, even before you factor in its merciful datedness.Gillian, OTOH, is timelessly lovely and to be encouraged.

Gemma because I really dislike the Gillian spelling which makes me think of a fish gill. Gemma has a happier, more upset sound to it and the potential nn Gem is really darling, imo.ETA that I meant to type upbeat instead of upset, lol. My point was that it has more of a happy, springy feel to it than Gillian.

Gillian if you're pronounce it with a hard G. If not, Gemma.I really like both, btw, but I guess I just prefer the "historical" aspects of Gillian a tiny bit more.

Is Gillian traditionally pronounced with a hard G? Just wondering because it says that it comes from Julian which would indicate a pronunciation with a soft G. I have never heard it with a hard G, is it a traditional pronunciation?

I know that the actress Gillian Jacobs pronounces it with a hard G. Whether that's "correct" or not I don't know, but I like it!

Tough call. Love them both. Gemma gets the nod from me. It's just so warm and friendly sounding. :0)
