Re: Tawny
It is different and I think it's cute. I first heard it used on a TV show character who was intelligent and witty and I liked it immediately. Didn't realize until later that it's also one of those so-called "tacky" names along the same vein as Tammy, Bobbie, etc. But a person makes the name, a name doesn't make the person - so I see the appeal of Tawny.

I actually started to like the name when I first heard it from a character on a drama called Rectify. The character turned out to be a kind and wholesome person, so I liked it even more. And yeah I don't see how Tawny is a tacky name either. I get that it sounds too similar to Tammy and Tommie, but that's a dumb reason to hate it. So you're right, "a person makes the name, a name doesn't make the person".
