I wasn't going to reply to this, but when I saw all of the "I love it" comments, I was really surprised, as this name is one of the worst I know of. So I decided to weigh in as an opposing viewpoint.

Living in an area with a large Spanish-speaking population I wouldn't choose this name though because it sounds like Una/Uno, meaning one. They are such common words used in everyday language that I don't think Oona would have enough of a distinct sound to be someone's name (around here at least!)

I love Oona! I tried to pitch it to my hubby a few months ago but he did not share my enthusiasm!

Love it! I do slightly prefer the Una spelling, but Oona is lovely too. I know Oonagh is completely legit, but it looks like it's trying too hard. It would be like spelling "the" as "theugh". Its simplicity is its strength.

I like it. It's elegant and regal sounding. Simple and feminine without being frilly. The spelling of it confuses me too! Oonagh looks like the more "complete" version. Do you want it pronounced like your great grandma? If so, then spell it Una. I've been pondering this dilemma myself lately and have yet to come up with a satisfying conclusion...

I hate how ghe double O looks, but I think it's preferable, bevause Una is too number-y. I like Oonagh better. It the gh balances the Oo, but I would never choose that spelling in the US, I'm not sure how it would go over in your location.

I love Oona! Una's not my thing at all. I think Oona's sweet with quite a bit of sass. Love it to pieces!

I really dislike the sound of Oona / Una. Una looks silly to me, bc it looks like just an indefinite article to me. Oonagh looks terrible to me as well. Oona LOOKS ok to me, but the sound is really not my thing.

I don't really consider being 1/4 Irish a more legit reason to use the spelling Oonagh.

I like Oona. I would not use the Oonagh spelling if not actually Irish. I think it's kind of ... ugly. Oona isn't.
I'm acquainted with an Oona who is about 8. It's a neat name! Memorable and striking, but short of being literally remarkable (like, I think people wouldn't say out loud, "gee what an odd name").

I adore Oona. It's not usable for me but I think it's very pretty. I far prefer Oona to Una, enchanting is the perfect word to describe her.

Oona is my preferred spelling. I couldn't use it because it sounds ridiculous with my last name, but I do enjoy it.

The variant with "gh" is too complex imo.

I love Oona (as well as Una)! The double "o" is really enchanting.
