I dislike the ME-E-E in Amelia, so I prefer the sound of Amalia. But I wouldn't use it in an English-speaking environment.

I can't judge Amalia because I don't know how it is perceived in its own culture and it doesn't happen in mine. Amelia sounds both pretentious and stodgy.
