Talk to me about Frida
A teen favourite that my love for Frida Kahlo is bringing back to me. Love it? Hate it? What middle/first name would you use with it (if you had to use it)? Thanks!

I had a great-aunt named Freida who passed away before I was born. For reasons I never really understood my father always used it as an all-purpose nickname/substitute name. He called me, my brother, my mother, the pets, and pretty much anyone else Freida if he needed their attention or was referring to them. He would also sometimes just randomly say it to himself when no one else was talking. So basically I associate it strongly with my father's eccentricities.Aside from that I'm not a big fan of the found, reminds me of "fried."

I ADORE Frida Kahlo, I even wrote my Bachelor of Arts essay in art history about her! I really like Frida pronounced in Spanish, it sounds so much more fiery than when said in Swedish.
But I wouldn't use Frida, mainly because I have a cousin called Frida. It was a very trendy name in the 80's. My cousin's name is Frida Linnea, so that's the first combo I come to think of.
Frida Kahlo's birth name was Magdalena Carmen Frieda Kahlo y Calderón (she changed the spelling from Frieda to Frida during WWII because she thought it sounded too German).Frida means "beautiful" in Old Norse.

Interesting that it was super popular in the 80s! Does it have a really dated feel to it now, to you at least?

Maybe not dated, but today a Frida is more likely to be the young mother than the newborn baby.

I only think of NoseFrida. Great when your baby has a cold, maybe not great for their name? Lol

Haha! We don't have that here, but thanks for mentioning it! It's good to know.

I like it, but I prefer the spelling Freida (it moves it further away from “fridge”, I guess?).I’d pair it with something starting with a consonant & lyrical - Freida Lily is leaping out at me.

Oh, it is kind of fridge-y. I'll see if I can adjust to Freida instead, haha. Freida Lily is sweet!

I love Frida (& German spelling Frieda). It's in our top 4 right now for names we're considering if this baby is a girl. We'll pair it with Pauline (after my grandma).

Ooh you will have to update us on what you choose! I do wonder if Frieda isn't a little too fried though!

Someone I went to school with recently named her daughter Frida, after Frida Kahlo. I quite like it.

Glad it's being used!

I love Frida, particularly the meaning of 'peace'.I like Frida Elisabet, Frida Leonor, or even something more streamlined like Frida Mae.

I really love the name Frida, because of Kahlo and the meaning. I think it would pair well with simple but distinct English or Spanish middle names:Frida Rosamund
Frida Meredith
Frida Consuelo
Frida Esperanza

Frida Rosamund is great!

Frida Mae is simple but lovely. I don’t know why but I find it a very difficult name to pair, so a filler middle might be the answer!
