Simeon
What do you think of the name Simeon? Does it bother you that it sounds identical to the word "simian"?

The simian thing does exist, but the worst for me is its excessively biblical vibe, which Simon has lost. If I met a Simeon, I'd make assumptions about his parents' religious stance; with a Simon, I wouldn't.

The simian connection does bother me and would lead to teasing. Simon would be so much better, in my opinion.

Yes. That's really all I can think of when I hear this name so I don't like it.

I prefer Simon, but view Simeon as a perfectly decent name. The "simian" homonyn has never been an issue for me.

Yes. That's why I've never liked it. Simeon = Simian

My DH's mother wanted to name him this but to pronounce it like Simon, which is just weird IMO. I think the usual pronunciation of Simeon is too similar to "simian".

I've never known a person by that name, though I knew of one;he was the boyfriend of a work-mate of mine.
(in the end, they broke up, his family didn't like her.)No, it doesn't bother me that the name is like "simian".

I wish I didn't immediately think Simian because it's a nice name, but I do.

No, It doesn't bother me much. I wasn't brave enough to use it at 18 though and have a Simon, To honour an Uncle Simeon. Sigh. Wish I'd been braver. I love Simeon!

I love the name. I think Simeon is lovely sounding and unusual. The word simian does not bother me; the vowels are different enough and I don't think monkeys are such a negative thing, anyway. I also think of the Simien Mountains in Ethiopia, whose name means "northern mountains" in Amharic.Andrew Simeon is a combo that I have been admiring.
