Re: What do you think of...
A very interesting selection of names! Lysistrata — Ancient Greek / Roman name. No clear meaning aside from the association with Aristophanes’ comedy. Anyone familiar with this story will probably see it as a bad association for naming today. Encarnación — a very old, very Catholic Spanish name. As a first name, I imagine it on an elderly, devout Catholic woman of Latin American heritage. Melpomene — another Ancient Greek classic. The meaning is positive, but it’s association with tragedy may be seen as a negative. Most U.S. residents would probably mangle the pronunciation (mel-PO-me-nee, at least in English). Paloma — a good, underused Spanish classic. I love the meaning of dove and the association with peace. It does seem “old-fashioned” to me, but not permanently dated in the same way that Encarnación is. Shohreh — a beautiful Persian name with a pretty nice meaning. I also like the sound of it when it’s pronounced correctly / as in Persian. Most North Americans probably would have a hard time pronouncing this, however.Xiomara — one of my favorite names of all time! Beautiful meaning, sound, and spelling. It makes me think of a strong, intelligent, creative woman. I totally think this is usable.
