Tacky appropriation
Used by a Westerner without Chinese ancestry, it seems out of place and culturally appropriative. This is especially true since Shaolin (like the monastery) isn’t even a given name in China.

Using an actual name from the culture you are trying to honour would probably be more appropriate.

Shaolin is also a form of kung fu, so I don't think it's a good name for a person.

I don't know if it would be seen as respectful or rude. Certainly there is a beautiful sound to it and it is meaningful.

Hello :) I personally dislike it. It just doesn't sound nice to me. Maybe it would also be seen as offensive and not as honoring. I don't know. I would definitely ask someone if I thought about using it. There are many nice Chinese names, I would rather use another one.
