Sally
What do you think of Sally? Do you prefer it as an NN for Sarah or a stand-alone name?*previously posted as summitseeker*

I'm not a huge fan of Sally because it makes me think of egg salad, but I don't think it's terrible.I know this is weird, but I think it should still be a nickname for Sarah. It just sounds too nicknamey to me on its own.

Agreed completely, it should be an NN.

No offense to anyone named Sally, I just never cared for this name, sounds very hillbilly-ish or lowclass to me. I would much prefer Callie if you are going for the "ally"sound.

It's my niece's name, so it's really grown on me. It isn't a NN for Sarah, and I don't think I've met any Sallys that were really Sarahs; that seems to be a thing of the past, at least where I live. I think it works just fine as a standalone. It's a cute little name. :)

I prefer it as a standalone name. I don't really like Sarah. I like Sara though.

I’m not too wild about Sally, but I think I like it better as a stand alone. It also sounds like a cartoon name to me.

I like Sally very much and Sarah not at all. Honestly, I can't imagine a contemporary Sarah going by Sally at all: Sally has been an independent name for too long to count as a nn.

It always gives me the impression of a name that's supposed to be sweet & innocent but the bearer is actually mean. I know that's specific, but it is over-the-top, in-your-face "NICE" to me.Anyway, I think it's fine as a name by itself. I actually think it would be more difficult to have as a nn for Sarah.

It has a 70s vibe to me; or alternately, it sounds like a girl from the 1700s-1800s. It is nicknamey, but it works fine on it's too, I guess because it's been around so long. I'd compare it to: Lucy, Gwen, Nancy, Molly...As a NN for Sarah, it's so antiquated that I'd think it was a bit ridiculous if I came across it IRL. I would like it as a NN for Salvadora, though.

I think it's dated and a bit plain, but has a cheerful, friendly feel to it that lessens the plainness a bit. It's way better than Sarah, and I'd rather it just be used on its own.

I absolutely love the name Sally. I think it's so adorable and I expect it to be wildly popular sometime in the next 50 years.I prefer it as a nickname for Sarah, though I don't like the name Sarah much at all. I'm just weirdly attached to the idea of having a formal name behind the nickname.

I don’t love it either way. It reminds me of the phrase “sally forth” or the word “silly”. It’s a little better as a nickname because it gives the person more options later if they decide not to be a Sally.

I love Sally! I think she’s energetic, fun, and full of personality. Plus she’s a lot less popular than I thought, where I live. I really don’t think a full name is needed, Sally is perfectly fine and established on her own.

I like it and have it on my list. It's not really used as a nickname where I live, so to me it feels weird to use Sarah "Sally" even though it's totally fine in the US for example. It's a bit dated and nicknamey, but I don't really mind that.
