Re: Name Sighting
You know, sometimes I do see interesting names that I feel could be worth sharing here, that I don’t post because I worry that all the responses will be what you just described above, and it bums me out a little.http://www.behindthename.com/pnl/87410

DittoExactly how I feel. Leave the politics out of a name website.

That’s not what I mean. I mean that I know I’ll get responses along the lines of “haha what a stupid name why would the parents have picked something so tasteless??” And not much else. Boring.I think it’s important to examine our racial biases and there tend to be a lot of them, when it comes to names.

Agreed that people may have a racial bias, but people here are also making assumptions and stereotypes about a names race when none has been noted.

Agree.

Ooh yeah a majority white board laughing at a black name, that's totally okay. It's fine because it's names!

Exactly. I placed no moral comment on the name. That was all Rachel Shaina. Also, you’re not alone. I’ve had PMs saying they wish they could post a name but feel they’ll be skewered by the PC police even though their post has no negative commentary about the name.

As I said to aussiechic, that’s not what I mean. I’m not worried about the “pc police” I’m worried that people will have nothing to say about certain names that isn’t “haha look at this bad name picked out by stupid tasteless parents.”
