Need help picking out a Chinese name for character
Hello, I hope I am posting this in the right place. I have a Mo Dao Zu Shi original character that I am trying to name. I don't want to randomly pick and choose a name that doesn't sound right or can come off as offensive or rude.A picture of the character (male): https://64.media.tumblr.com/4468cc034dae7344f3741892ae745859/0cd58615bbbe6b1e-bb/s2048x3072/ee5a61a3028e78bab1b32c975d5e6acf12a95d40.png I was suggested "Liǔyàn [柳 (liǔ) - willow tree, 燕 (yàn) - sparrow] or Sǔnling [笋 (sǔn) - bamboo shoot, 綾 (ling) - damask, thin silk]" and "Yun [雲 - cloud]" for their surname. i like but I also would like more suggestions if possible. Since the series is in a fantasy ancient China I would also like a courtesy name as well. Also any references for pronunciation too is appreciated! Thank you for taking time to read. Have a good day!

Can you provide more info about the character? I speak Mandarin so perhaps I could help.

Thank you for the offer. I'm still developing him but what I have for him so far is a fairly light hearted and good natured person and has a fascination with medicine and the human body alongside his casual enjoyments. In terms of power and abilities he's average but persistent. (also hope I am replying correctly! I am new to the forum here)

Thanks for the personality description. Since there're tens of thousands of Chinese words (while many of them share the same pronunciation) that can be used as names, I guess we can start from the other way around... Which English name would you give to this character?

I think that's where I feel unsure, the sheer amount of options and finding a combination that makes sense and is okay. I haven't thought of it this way but looking at more English sounding names I do like Hale or Halen, not for the meaning of them but how they sound.

Yes, asking someone who speaks Mandarin would be the best course of action! Good luck!

Names + did you draw that? cos it's wonderful!I quite like Liǔyàn as his surname. How do these sound? (P.S. because it's in ancient China, I'll put down the traditional chinese characters, not simplified) - Liǔyàn Zhāng Wěi [張 (zhāng) - archer, 偉 (wěi) - great]
- Liǔyàn Bǎo [寶 (bǎo) - treasure]
- Liǔyàn Xiáng [祥 (xiáng) - auspicious]
- Liǔyàn Jiǎo-lóng [角龍 (jiǎo lóng) - horned dragon]
- Liǔyàn Jīnhǎi [金海 (jīnhǎi) - golden sea]
