Ian Malcolm after the Jurassic Park character, of course! All jokes aside, Malcolm. Ian is super 90s to me despite its stable popularity in the last 20 years.

Honestly? Ian
Malcolm I find to be sort of gross sounding in a way. Idk.

Like both names, but Malcolm just a bit better. Granted, my associations with people called Malcolm are far better than those with Ians. If I were required to use one, it would certainly be Malcolm.

I find Malcolm uncomfortable to pronounce. It shortens to Mal or, worse, Malc. Where I live, it is really dated: I'd be surprised to find one under the age of, maybe, 65.I wanted to name our son Ian but for family reasons I couldn't. If I'd had a second son, he'd have been Ian for sure. Classic, timeless, no need for a nickname, and I've never met an unpleasant one, or even an ordinary one.
