Merida
The Gaelic warrior princess from Disney’s ”Brave”. It is a Disney Princess name, but not crazy like Cinderella or Rapunzel. I think it’s cute, with the nickname Merry!

Not a fan. Vaguely reminiscent of mermaids.

I really like it.
Before Brave came out, I thought I had invented it. But I wasn't creative enough, I guess, to think of giving it first-syllable stress - that makes it even better, IMO.
I'm secretly hoping it becomes popular.
Nickname Merry is kinda boring to me though.

I think it’s too associated with the princess. Meredith is better.

Bizarre. I don't do Disney, especially princesses, but how even Disney could take a name that 'could be based on the Spanish city of Mérida, derived from Latin Emerita Augusta meaning "veterans of Augustus"' (this site), and give it to a medieval Scottish princess is quite beyond me. It looks like a variant of Meredith, which I strongly prefer.

My pet theory is that it was meant to be a fanciful take on Mairead that would appeal to modern Americans.
There's also a comment on the name here, that claims "In Hebrew "Merida" means 'revolt, rebellion'" and that it seems chosen to suit the character's personality.

Thanks - that makes as much sense as anything!

I like it, but I wouldn't use in real life; I can only think of the princess. Although nicknames are available, I probably wouldn't use them: Mair, Merry, and Rida.

I never thought of the nickname, but I do like the name and the movie.

Ugh. No. Visually it reminds me of the French word merde.

I absolutely love it! Not only is Merida one of my favorite modern-era Disney princess and movie overall, but very fond of her name as well. It's unique but still very much no nonsense and practical. I added the name onto my pnl right after I'd seen the movie, and was thrilled once the name was added onto the main database of this site. It was definitely deserving of that. 🙂
Merida is quite easily the most gorgeous Disney Princess name, if you ask me.Not fond of Merry though. I'd rather Ida if I absolutely HAD to use a nn, but realistically wouldn't use any.

I like Merita, so Merida appeals to me... I mean I'm not crazy about it, but it's definitely eye-catching, imo.
It could also be shortened to Ida, (I guess), which I quite like.
