I live in the US, and I actually know a Liesl! I had never heard it before I met her, and I really like it. It sounds like a better version of Lisa to me.
The one con is that it's the word "lies" with an l at the end. A person wouldn't notice that unless spelling the name a lot out loud or typing it frequently though.
